Evenin’ Goofies,
It’s official: I am done writing Secret Chords.
Not “done” like I hate it, but finished with the entire story. I have a real mix of feelings now that the project is officially wrapped. First off, I think you are gonna love it! I’ve tried to mix in as much realism as possible so that an implausible story of a global pop star dating a regular guy would actually resonate.
Secondly, I can finally admit that this was inspired by something real. I know of a pop star who briefly dated someone I knew (no, it wasn’t me 😭) and I learned a lot about that world in the process. Mainly, that this massive celebrity was incredibly down-to-earth, but also notoriously private. Not a lot of pictures were ever taken, and their dates had to be super strategic. Also, you would be genuinely surprised by how well some dark shades and a ball cap can make a household name completely disappear into a crowd.
And finally… I learned that I desperately have to work on my workflow. This book got harder and harder the closer I got to the end. There were moments where my notes became difficult to decipher, and I couldn’t understand exactly what past-me was thinking. (My process is to write notes describing each chapter, and then write general scenarios I want the characters to navigate). It wasn’t impossible to untangle, but I did get seriously concerned some days that my slow progress would make me miss my self-imposed deadlines.
But anyways, thank you all so much for taking the time to read this story.
Moving forward, I am planning a special release via Kindle! It won’t be exactly the same as the version you read online; I’m planning some minor edits to the story flow and smoothing out a few problematic sections based on my editor’s feedback. I will also be including the exclusive bonus stories from Patreon in the Kindle version!
Meanwhile, I am already in the process of getting my next story, Death’s Doorman, off the ground! It’s gonna be good y’all. I can’t wait for you to read it. My plan is to launch it sometime in very late summer on Royal Road.
Your goofiness persists, but so do I,
